Controlling anger

Controlling Anger

Feeling angry is part of being human. It is a natural response to being attacked, insulted, deceived or frustrated. However excessive or inappropriate anger can be a problem both for the person exhibiting it and the people who feel the brunt of that anger.

Actually, it’s not the anger itself that is a problem, it is the level of anger, the appropriateness of anger, how it affects you and others, and the controlling of anger.

Anger can be useful, but it can also be frightening. When something makes you angry, adrenalin causes your body to prepare for ‘fight or flight’, giving you energy and making you feel tense. Releasing this energy and tension is good for you, but it can be difficult to do so in ways that are constructive. Also anger can sometimes turn to rage and lead to destructive and violent behaviour.
